Betwenn Schrattenflue and Hohgant

The green valley of the Emmen with its scattered agricultural settlement is attractive. The timber industry is important here and stands out. From Eggiwil (BE), we'll be walking along the Emme, always between two little-known but remarkable mountain ranges, the Schrattenflue and the Hohgant. On the second day, we'll be in the heart of the Entlebuch UNESCO Biosphere.

At the end of the first day, we arrive in Schangnau. It's a small village with a large hotel (the Hotel Löwen), which proves that farming families meet here regularly, and where we'll be spending the night.

Day 1: The start of our route is easy, with flat ground along the Emme and an open landscape. Later, forests and climbs appear, as we have to climb from Eggiwil (739 m) to Wachthubel (1414 m). We have plenty of time to master these climbs and can regularly pause to admire the view. The views are breathtaking. We can see all the way to the Valais 4000s.

We reach Schangnau (929 m) in the late afternoon and spend the night in the only hotel in the village. 5 h walk, 13 km.

Day 2. After Schangnau, the path winds its way to a wooden bridge and we still have a view of the two mountain ranges: Hohgant and Schrattenfluh. After Kemmeriboden, the hiking trail becomes a mountain path. We leave the 900 m altitude behind and reach 1200 m. In the distance, the community of Sörenberg will be the goal of this 2-day hike. 6-hour walk, 19 km.
